About the University of Embu

A chartered public university on the slopes of Mount Kenya, with roots in agricultural training that reach back to 1947.

History

The institution was established in 1947 as an Agricultural Training School, and was later renamed the Embu Institute of Agriculture. It became Embu University College, a constituent college of the University of Nairobi, in 2011, and received its Charter as a full public university in 2016.

That path from a specialised agricultural institute to a university teaching agriculture, sciences, business, law, nursing, education and technical subjects still shapes the institution today.
