The UniversityA message from the Vice-Chancellor
Prof. Daniel Mugendi Njiru, Ph.D., EBS
On behalf of the University of Embu Council, Management and Senate and the entire UoEm fraternity, I take this opportunity to welcome you to this institution. Additionally, I welcome you to this UoEm website platform, which facilitates communication and the sharing of information, knowledge and best practices within the University and with all our stakeholders. I thank you for taking time out to visit our website and share in our vision. As you will find out, the University of Embu is a truly inspiring place to be, where you will be part of a community of enthusiastic, industrious, highly qualified and experienced staff and zealous scholars working together to achieve excellence and build successful careers in various disciplines to address both national and international challenges.
The University of Embu was established as a constituent college of the University of Nairobi through Legal Notice No. 65 of 17th June 2011. It is the successor of the former Embu Agricultural Staff Training College, which started in 1947 as an agricultural training school and was renamed the Embu Institute of Agriculture in 1968. Friday, 7th October 2016 marked the transition of the institution from a constituent college to a fully fledged university. The University is located about four kilometres from Embu town centre along the Embu-Meru road.
UoEm is mandated to play a leading role in the development and expansion of opportunities for higher education and training, research, and support for innovative approaches to the development of humanity. In the discharge of this mandate the University upholds the following core values: integrity, professionalism, teamwork, innovativeness and customer focus. The University remains committed to its vision of becoming a dynamic epicenter of excellence in training and research for service to humanity, and has developed a strategic plan that sets out clear priorities and the strategies to achieve them.
The University offers quality, market-oriented undergraduate and postgraduate courses which are relevant, value-added and affordable, in a convenient, stimulating and challenging learning environment. The University continues to expand its collaborations and linkages with other national and international organisations so that its graduates are abreast of the latest research findings, technologies and job market trends, and it reviews its curricula continually to keep them in line with global market needs.
The Vice-Chancellor’s message on the live site states that the University has six schools: Agriculture, Law, Pure and Applied Sciences, Business and Economics, Education and Social Sciences, and Nursing. Other pages across the estate state eight. The number is a claim about the institution and should be settled by the Registrar before any page carries it.
