Sport at Embu

In 2025/2026 a University of Embu student won the Kenyan national 400m title, ran at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo and helped set an African record. That is the headline. The rest of the year was busy too.

George Mutinda, Tokyo, and an African record

Mutinda won the Kenyan National 400m title and qualified for major international competition. He represented Kenya at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, then ran a pivotal leg for Kenya’s Mixed 4x400m Relay team at the World Athletics Relays, helping the team qualify for the World Championships after setting a new African record.

He is a current student. Athletics remains one of the University’s flagship sports, and his results are the clearest argument the programme has.

Note for Sports and Games. Results here are the 2025/2026 season as recorded in The Flashlight, Issue No. 14. A fixtures list and a way to register interest in a team would turn this from a report into something a prospective student can act on.
